Explore Green Island

Open the second Saturday of each month March - December 8am-4pm

Extended Summer Hours: June-August 8am-6pm

Discover one of western Oregon’s most remarkable restoration stories at the place where the McKenzie and Willamette Rivers meet.

Once farmland, Green Island has been transformed into a thriving young floodplain forest where beavers, river otters, and more than 150 bird species now make their home. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful walk, wildlife viewing, photography, or simply time outdoors, this is a special place to experience a living river in action.

No registration required. Free and open to everyone.

Green Island is privately owned and actively managed for conservation. To help protect wildlife and habitats, please keep these guidelines in mind:

  • Pets are not permitted. Domestic animals are prohibited to protect sensitive wildlife.

  • Restrooms: A portable toilet is available near the entrance. No other facilities are on site.

  • Bring water. Drinking water is not available.

  • No smoking anywhere on the property.

  • Be aware during hunting seasons. Green Island borders public lands where hunting is allowed during bird and deer seasons. You may hear gunfire nearby, but hunting is not permitted on Green Island.

  • Bicycles are welcome. Trails are a combination of gravel roads and dirt farm roads, so wider tires are recommended.

  • Please drive slowly. Help us be good neighbors by driving 10 MPH or less along Green Island Road.
