About the event

Brian Booth/Ona Beach is distinguished by its diverse coastal environment, including sandy beach dunes, estuary systems, and wetlands linked to Beaver Creek, all encircled by Sitka spruce forests. This area is noted for its relatively untouched state, providing a glimpse into the natural coastal ecosystems of Oregon.
Notable plant communities consist of salt-resistant vegetation, dune grasses, and riparian shrubs where the creek converges with the ocean.
Coastal Dune Habitat: Comprises vegetation that stabilizes sand, such as beach pea (Lathyrus japonicus) and introduced grasses.
Estuary & Salt Marsh: The area where Beaver Creek meets the ocean features salt marshes with species like arrowgrass and pickleweed, often serving as nutrient-rich, tidal environments.
Riparian and Wetland: Along Beaver Creek, the habitat is moist, with shrubs like willows, salmonberry, and alder.
